Sweet Spring Blooms on Black & White Film

Every spring I await the blooms of my Peony bushes in my backyard. We bought our home early spring in 2021 when the ground was still bare. Peonies are my favorite flowers, my first major tattoo was a cluster of Peonies on the inside of my right bicep. Watching them bloom each spring feels full circle so I thought it would be fitting to document their growth on film this past spring.

I had forgotten about this documentation project almost as soon as I had finished it, spring is always busy with photography, and even more so this past spring with my own wedding and hip surgery. This roll, and others, piled up in my office and I only stumbled upon them last week.

I shoot my everyday life as a form of documentation, a form of reflection. I’d love to hear if you enjoy this look at what I’m shooting and why.

Shot on Canon AE-1, Kodak Tri-X 400TX
